Vidal Fleury

Established
in 1781, this is the oldest and most respected
house in the Rhone Valley. Founder Joseph Vidal-Fleury
strived to make wines that expressed the soul
of the various soils and achieved the highest
quality possible. In 1985, the estate was purchased
by the Guigal Family and run as a separate identity.
Today, Vidal Fleury remains as the best of the
region with a strong portfolio of splendid wine. |

Fleury Cotes du Rhone Rouge 2003
A blend of 40% Syrah, 40% Grenache, and 20% others,
the 2003 Cotes du Rhone possesses copious amounts
of peppery, black currant fruit and licorice,
a hint of kirsch, and a fleshy, full-bodied finish..
-Robert Parker Wine Advocate
"This wine is a fine example of all that's
good about the appellation. It has a compete nose
of bold berries. The palate is open and welcoming,
with cherry and raspberry fruit framed by a light
shade of oak. Even the finish, which is round
and nicely textured, works. And with light but
healthy tannins, it's a breeze to drink."

Fleury Chateauneuf Du Pape 1998
1998 is one of the best vintages in the last 15
years in the southern parts of the Rhone valley.
Robert Parker's review of the 1998 vintage indicates
that "it represents a sumptuous, potentially
great vintage for this appellation (the finest
since 1990)..high degrees of alcohol were the
norm, along with Grenache cuvees that were as
black/purple as any producer could ever recall.
While acidity levels were relatively low, the
strength of these wines is their purity and intensity
of fruit." Made from predominately Grenache,
Syrah and Mourvedre, the wine has a generous offering
of cedar, spice box, pepper & cherry fruit.
At 7 years old, it is fantastic to drink now or
cellar for another 5 years.
